An eye-catching plant with fantastic foliage in a wild pattern of chartreuse yellow/green and dark maroon/black and an asymmetrical flair. Big (in terms of fairy/miniature gardens) broad succulent leaves contrast nicely with the many fine foliages in the garden. When happy, blooms with clusters of simple 2-petal white flowers. A rhizomatous (grows with a thick stem along the ground) begonia and part of the eyelash group, with its fine line of long white hair along the edge of the leaves (just like eyelashes). Happy to grow in a small pot by itself or with other plants in a shady garden. Likes evenly moist soil, but not wet or soggy conditions. Grow indoors or outside with bright indirect light. Cold hardy to zone 9; if grown outdoors, bring inside when night temperatures drop into the 50's. A tropical perennial; does not tolerate frost.
